How to Transfer a Domain to Us
This article helps you move a domain registered with another provider across to us, so you can manage it in one place. Most transfers take a few days to complete.
Before you start
A domain usually can't be transferred if it was registered or last transferred within the past 60 days. If your domain is newer than that, you'll need to wait before transferring.
Step 1 — Unlock your domain
- Log in to your account at your current registrar.
- Find the settings for the domain you want to transfer.
- Turn off the domain lock (sometimes called Transfer Lock or Registrar Lock).
Step 2 — Get your transfer code
- Look for an option to reveal or request the EPP code (also called the authorisation code or auth code).
- Copy the code, or note where it will be sent. It's often emailed to the domain's registered contact.
Step 3 — Check your details are correct
- Make sure the domain's contact email address is one you can access, as approval messages may be sent there.
- Confirm the domain isn't expired or due to expire very soon.
Step 4 — Start the transfer from your account
- Log in to your account with us.
- Start a new domain transfer.
- Enter the domain name and the EPP/authorisation code when prompted.
- Follow the prompts to begin the transfer.
Step 5 — Approve and wait
- Watch for any approval email and follow its instructions to confirm the transfer.
- Allow a few days for the transfer to complete. Your domain will keep working throughout.
Transferring a .au domain
Australian .au domains use a slightly different process. There's no EPP code. Instead, you'll use the domain password (sometimes called a domain key) set at your current provider, and you generally don't need to wait out the 60-day rule in the same way. If you're not sure where to find your .au domain password, ask your current provider.
