How to Edit Your DNS Records

Updated 23 June 20260 views2 min read

This article helps you add or change DNS records for your domain using the DNS zone editor in your control panel. You can do this when your domain uses our nameservers.

Before you start

A quick word of caution: DNS records control where your website and email go. Entering the wrong value can take your site offline or stop your email arriving. Change records carefully, and if you're unsure, check with us first.

Step 1 — Open your control panel

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Open your control panel.

Step 2 — Find the DNS section for your domain

  1. Look for the DNS area of your control panel.
  2. Select the domain whose records you want to edit.
  3. You'll see the DNS zone editor, which lists your domain's existing records.

Step 3 — Add a new record

  1. Choose the option to add a new record.
  2. Select the record type you need, such as A, CNAME, MX or TXT.
  3. Enter the name (also called the host). Use @ for the domain itself, or a subdomain name like shop.
  4. Enter the value for the record, such as the IP address or the destination name your provider gave you.
  5. Set the TTL if asked. The default value is usually fine.

Step 4 — Save your changes

  1. Save the record.
  2. The change will start to apply shortly, though it can take a little time to spread across the internet.

Step 5 — Edit or remove a record

  1. Find the record you want to change in the list.
  2. Edit its value, or remove it if it's no longer needed.
  3. Save your changes.
